Homer Ralph Thurman

Mr. Homer Ralph Thurman, Jr. , known as "Jr." age 81, of Blue Ridge,GA, passed away December 10, 2014 at Hamilton Medical Center, Dalton, GA.

Mr. Thurman was born February 8, 1933 in McCaysville, to the late Mr. Homer Ralph Thurman, Sr. and the late Mrs. Irene Gibson Thurman. Jr. was a lifelong resident of Fannin County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville, and retired for the Tennessee Chemical Company as a Electrician Foreman. Jr. was well liked by his fellow employees.

Survivors include; his wife, Betty Panter Thurman; Children, one daughter & husband, Marla & Peter Van Dyck of Athens, GA; three grandchildren, Peter, Jr., Robert and Virginia Van Dyck; sisters, Marjorie Wood of Milledgeville, GA and Rita Abernathy of Copperhill, TN; sister-in-law and husband, Judy and Ronnie Holloway.

Funeral services: Finch-Cochran Funeral Home,Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Harry Gilbert and Mrs.Katie Gilbert. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery with military rights by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Serving as Pallbearers: Patrick Holloway, Brandon Holloway, Ryan Holloway, Peter and Robert Van Dyck, Tony Deal, Brett Deal, Bobby Hellersteadt, Evan Hellerstedt, and Rick Wood. Honorary pallbearers: All former electricians at the Tennessee Chemical Company.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home, McCaysville, GA Friday evening, December 12, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
