Hester Blanche McGill, nee Johnson of Pomona, NY, formerly of Cherokee County, NC died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the age 94. She was preceded in death by husband, James Charles McGill. Born Thursday, December 5, 1912 in Cherokee County Hot House Township to the late Walter E. Johnson and Savanah Brown Johnson. She had lived in the area for 85 years, she and her husband ran a mom and pop store and filling station for 35 years. She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

McGill of Cherokee County, daughter, Doris McGill Sherwood of Rockland County, granddaughter, Karen Jordan, granddaughter, Debbie Coffey, grandson, Charlie McGill, granddaughter, Melanie Sherwood, granddaughter, Jessica Sherwood George, granddaughter, Sarah Sherwood Peickert, great-granddaughter, Rebecca Jordan Phaff, great-granddaughter, Angie Jordan, great-granddaughter, Cindy Jordan Spielman, great-granddaughter, Karie Coffey, great-grandson, Eric McGill, great-granddaughter, Danielle George, great-grandson, William George, great-granddaughter, Savanah Low, great-grandson, Samuel Peickert, great-granddaughter, Rebekah Phoebe Peickert, great-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Phaff and great-great granddaughter, Jordan Spielman.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 8, 2007 at 2:00PM from the Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Evangelist David Peickert and Reverend Ronnie Crisp officiating. Music will be provided by the Golden Sisters and Roy McKee. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: William George, Richard Low, Clayton Coffey, Bob Jordan, Frank Beeam, Randy Denton and James Allen.
