Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Herol Payne, age 89, lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away Saturday evening, March 15, 2014, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Payne was born on April 27, 1924, a son of the late Norvie Payne and the late Laura Frances Rector Payne. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served during World War II in the Seabees. He served in the Pacific theatre - more specifically, in Okinawa. Herol had worked at the Tennessee Copper Company, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by his wife, Laverne; by sisters: Gladys Freeman, Eloise Legg; brothers, Arnold Payne, Jewell Payne, Daniel Branton Payne.
Mr. Payne will be lovingly remembered and missed greatly by his family members: son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Payne, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Tina Payne, also of Blairsville; sister, Hazel Smith, of Canton, Georgia; and brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Bobbie Payne, of Blairsville; five grandchildren: Scott Payne and his wife Maranda; Lena Varner and her husband, Davis; Grayson Payne, Irenee Payne, and Noah Payne; great grandson, Samuel Payne.
Funeral services for Harol have been scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Marty Payne, Scott Payne, Grayson Payne, Sonny Freeman, Joel Payne, and Tommy Rogers. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, between the hours of 6 until 8 p.m.
