Herman Raymond Swanson, 78, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at his home in Hiawassee, GA. Herman was born May 8, 1946, in Murphy, NC to Rufus and Hattie Swanson.
Herman was preceded in death by father, Rufus Swanson; mother, Haddie Sherlin; daughter, Sheree Cook; sister, Betty Rhymer; brother, Edward Swanson; and brother-in-law, Virgel Radford.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley Swanson; son, Dwight Swanson; sister, Emma Radford; brothers, Carl (Elaine) Swanson, David Swanson, Henry Swanson, and Jimmy (Kathy) Swanson; grandchildren, Leigha (Jordan) Hicks, Whitley Swanson, William Moss; and great-grandchildren, Brayson Hicks, and Bridger Hicks. Many other family members and friends survive.
Herman is remembered as hardworking and a dedicated family man. He was a member of Enotah Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Herman loved proudly served his country in the U.S. Airforce. A true patriot, he enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July. He was dedicated to his work as an environmental safety officer. Herman loved to sing.
Funeral services will take place at Enotah Baptist Church on July 16th, 2024 at 2:00pm.
Herman's nephews will serve as pallbearers. The deacons of Enotah Baptist Church and their wives will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Memory Gardens in Hiawassee, GA.
The family will receive friends at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Homes on Monday, July 15th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
