Herman Earl Parton

September 25, 1930 — February 11, 2014

Mr. Herman Earl Parton, age 83 of Hiawassee, passed away February 11, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Parton was born September 25, 1930 in Hiawassee, GA to Ernest and Hattie Arrowood Parton. Herman owned chicken houses for most of his early years. He also worked for Colonial Mobile Homes and the Western Auto in Hiawassee. He later retired to work on his farm where he loved his cows and working with his bees. Herman was also an avid coon hunter and gun trader. He loved to tell his grandkids stories of growing up in these mountains that he loved so much.

Survivors include: his wife, Helen Parton, daughter and son in-law, Therese and Kevin Hunter, daughter, Dolly Ann Parton, daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Ken Hunter, all of Hiawassee, sister, Ora Bell Stewart of Hayesville, NC, and grandchildren, Brittany Hunter, Dawson Hunter, Morgan Matheson, Devin Hunter, and Samantha Matheson.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, February 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Shannon Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Baptist Cemetery with graveside Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the North Georgia Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers: Johnny Stewart, Jeff Stewart, Jack Stewart, Shannon Floyd, Billy Anderson, and Fred Smith.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Sunday, February 16, 2014 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
