The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces Funeral Services for Mr. Herbert Martin Schuette, Jr., age 72 of Blairsville who passed away on Tuesday Morning, August 26, 2014.
Herb was born on May 9, 1942 in Ohio to the late Herbert and Margaret Schuette. He grew up with his two siblings in West Palm Beach, Florida. At the age of 18, Herb joined the Navy and worked in the boiler room on the Chukawan. After leaving the Navy he worked and Pratt & Whitney for a few years. He then moved up the ladder at State Farm, where he worked for twenty-five years until his retirement,
Herb's early adult life revolved around being a father to his two sons. He enjoyed doing a variety of activities with his boys, such as fishing, hunting, skeet shooting, and most importantly, racing. He was involved with BMX racing and the Sports Car Club of America.
Years after retirement, Herb moved to the mountains of Blairsville. There he met his loving companion of five years, Mary Jo. His time was not spent sitting down. He and Mary Jo traveled some and he especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a fun-loving granddad to all of his grandchildren. He loved to go on hikes with his buddies and have social gatherings with numerous hometown friends. Racing remained a constant passion in Herb's life. He loved to be at "the shop" and races every chance he got.
He will be tenderly remembered and greatly missed by all those he touched, especially his family: companion, Mary Jo Shirer; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom & Erin Schuette, Tracy & Shawna Schuette; seven grandchildren, Sylvan Schuette, Emma Schuette, Anthony Johnson, Mason Mills, Stacia Williams, Robert Schuette, & Zane Schuette; brother, Richard Schuette & Donna; sister, Emily Williams & Lawrence; several special cousins, nieces, & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Aiken officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.The body will lie-in-state at the church from 10 until the service hour. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
