Mr. Herbert Clark Gibson, age 86 of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home. Herbert was born August 28, 1928 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Newton Gibson and the late Edith Anderson Gibson. He attended Shady Grove Baptist Church in Murphy, NC. Herbert enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. After his return home, he attended Young Harris College. Herbert retired from the Tennessee Copper Company where he worked as a miner and superintendent for many years. He also worked as a supervisor on several underground heavy construction projects located throughout North America. He was the owner and founder of Herbs Pit Barbecue Restaurant. In his spare time, Herbert enjoyed fishing and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors include loving wife, Helen Forrister Gibson, three sons, Herbert Gibson, Jr. and wife Karen, Vaughn Gibson and wife Kim, and William David Gibson and wife Cindy, five sisters, Christine Stoval, Kathleen McQuire, Geraldine Lominac, Madelyn Chambers, and Jane Stiles, six grandchildren, Catherine Michelle Forker and husband Jason, Herbert Clark Gibson, III, William Brett Gibson and wife Nicole, William Travis Gibson and wife Taylor, Jaderian Demi Gibson, and Thomas Daniel Gibson and one great-grandchild Lily Kate Gibson. Also, many nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his brother Clinton Gibson and brother John Gibson.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Shady Grove Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Ned Golden. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
