It is with sadness that the family of Henry Lawton Youngblood notes his passing on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his home after a two ½ year battle with cancer.
Born June 30, 1935 in Hiawassee, Georgia, he was the son of the late Pengry Youngblood and Vernie Wood Youngblood. Mr. Youngblood worked in the automotive industry for 35 years retiring from General Motors. During slow seasons he worked as a carpenter to make ends meet for his family. A skill that he continued after his retirement. He built a home on the lake "one piece at a time" enlisting the help of his sons. It was a labor of love that they shared together. He taught his boy's many life lessons such as having a strong work ethic, the importance of integrity and how a man should treat women. Imparting his wisdom that if you do the right thing "everything else will work itself out". An avid gardener, he grew many varieties of vegetables, which he shared among his family and neighbors. He was always the first to call to lend a helping hand. His hobbies included spoiling the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hunting and fishing. Gifted with the spirit of service and living out his faith in the Lord, He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, but regularly attended church wherever he went.
He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: loving wife of 58 years, Frances Youngblood; sons & daughters-in-law, Roger Youngblood & Joan Youngblood; Kevin Youngblood & Selena Youngblood; grandchildren, Joseph & Lauren; Justin & Brittney Youngblood; Jennifer & Drew; Jesse; Ryan & Jill Youngblood; Chase Youngblood; and great-grandchildren, Ivy Youngblood; Hunter, Luke, and Kinsley Youngblood; Matthew & Emma Patterson. Henry is also survived by three brothers, Gene, Bill & Ray Youngblood and two sisters, Della Mae Dearing and Barbara Wanda Hyatt. Numerous other relatives also share in his legacy. He is preceded in his death by two brothers, Owen & Hubert Youngblood, and sisters, Ruth Stamey and Dorothy Youngblood.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hills Memory Gardens. His Grandson's have the honor of serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Anthony Davenport, Drew Patterson & Tony Dearing.
