Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville funeral services for Helen Marie Rogers, of Blairsville, who passed away on Wednesday evening, June 19, 2013, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs. Rogers was born September 26, 1924 in Mineral Bluff, Georgia to the late Press Ballew and Jemima (Mima) Magness Ballew. Helen grew up with a large family, but lost her mother at the age of 7. She along with her siblings made many sacrifices to fill that role. During World War II, Helen went to Dalton to work as a seamstress in a thread mill. She was very talented and made clothing, household items and beautiful quilts. Helen retired from Levi Strauss in Blue Ridge. She was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church. Helen enjoyed staying busy: you could find her sewing, baking her famous "apple pies", doing circle word puzzles, coloring, drawing, watching birds or spending time with her family. With a "green thumb" she tended her garden beds. Often consulted on how to grow anything and everything. She is preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Tennie Ballew; husband, Paxton Rogers; son, Donald Ballew; daughter, Mary Sue Rogers; sisters, Nellie Foster and Gail Massengill; brothers, Ed, Jim, William Harvey,Wayne, Blayne, Clyde and Grady Ballew and grandson, Michael Bradley Rogers.
