Harry W. Abernathy

Harry Walter Abernathy passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 25, 2023, after a brief illness. Born November 17, 1930, in Epworth, GA to Luther H. and Elizabeth Ann Abernathy, Harry was well known in the community, having spent many years as a teacher in the Fannin County Schools, teaching as many as three generations of students. He was a master gardener, a rock hound and gem cutter, made and played musical instruments, designed, and with the help of his sons built his own house. He was a beloved father and devoted husband. He will be missed by many.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Rose Abernathy, and is survived by two sisters, Liz Simonds, and Sue Ackridge, eight children, sixteen grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral Service Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville, GA with Rev. Larry Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Epworth Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 8, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home.
