Harold McVey, 71, of Grassdale Road, Cartersville, Georgia, died, Monday, February 18, 2008.
McVey was born December 10, 1936 in Fannin County, the son of Green Berry and Dora Conley McVey. He was a Director at Owen Funeral Home, was manager and owner of the Common Grace Quartet and a long time faithful member of Canton Road Church of God. Harold was well known as one of the smoothest bass singers around. He sang and loved southern gospel music all of his life. Some of the groups he sang with were Gold City, the Blue Ridge Gospeltones, the Canton Road Quartet and Common Grace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley Norton and a brother, Howell McVey.
Surviving are his wife , Ruth McVey of Cartersville, a daughter and son in law, Karen and Steve Jones of Cartersville, four sisters, Helen Jones and Thelma Hardin both of Cartersville, Mary Ruth Sisson of Griffin, Jo Jones of Epworth, two brothers, Hertis McVey of Ellijay, Jimmy McVey of Blue Ridge, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Canton Road Church of God with Rev. Dewayne McCreary, Rev. Dale Brewer, Rev. Franklin Morris, and Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred White, Billy Miller, Terry Mitchell, Frank Turner, Tommy Morris, Carl Bouldin, Foster McArthur, Jimmy Jones, Bobby Chastain and Dan Underwood.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henry-Cochran Funeral Home in Blue Ridge Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
The family will recieve friends at the Owen Funeral Home, Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
