Mr. Harley William Harkins, age 83 of Suches, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Clay County Care Center, in Hayesville, North Carolina.
Mr. Harkins was born Sunday, May 6, 1923 in Union County, Georgia, to the late James and Lola Abercrombie Harkins. He was a WW II U S Navy Veteran , and served as a Gunner on the U.S. Pennsylvania. Mr. Harkins was a member of the VFW. He retired from General Motors in Detroit, Michigan. Preceding him in death was, brothers: Ralph Harkins and Eldo Harkins.
He is survived by wife, Rosemond Harkins of Lincoln Park, Michigan; sister and brother-in-law, Stella Mae and Cecil Hayes of Lenoir, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Ira T. and Pauline Harkins; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Virginia Harkins; Sister-in-law, Verlan Harkins, all of Suches; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Corinth Baptist Church in Suches with the Rev. William Phillips officiating. Music will be by John Jarrard. Pallbearers will be Tom Harkins, Robert Harkins, Craig Harkins, Phil Harkins, Dwight Harkins and Junior Ramsey. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by The North Georgia Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, April 12.
