Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Hammond Alfred Frith, age 92, of Blairsville, who passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville.
Mr. Frith was born in Cuthbert, Georgia, on October 8, 1919, a son of the late Charles S. Frith and Willie Emma Harp Frith. Mr. Frith joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He fought in World War II from December 1942 through April 1945 in the Second Armored Division. He fought during the Battle of the Bulge, earning 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After the war, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force, and completed 20 years of service to the country he loved. As a civilian, he has done construction, been an electrician, sold real estate, flown planes, and worked 10 years in the U.S. Postal Service. As U.S. Citizens, we greatly appreciate and are indebted to this veteran of World War II. His daughter, Sherrill, will greatly miss her dad, a highly decorated hero of World War II.
Mr. Frith is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherrill and Bud Knighton; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. He had been preceded in death by his son, Larry Frith; the wife of his children, Emily L. Frith; and 1 great grandson, Shawn Nichols.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Special music will be presented by Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper, and Mrs. Jackie Hill will accompany him on the piano. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jere Akin, David Collie, Ed Kirkland, Luke Stewart and Tom Maryesuk. Military Honors will be presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, one hour prior to the services. Burial will be held at a later time in Canton, Georgia in the Georgia National Veteran's Cemetery.
