Guy Raper

Mr. Guy Raper, age 71 of Culberson, passed away December 5, 2014 at the Murphy Medical Center. Guy was born October 19, 1943 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Jim Raper and the late Laurina Mashburn Raper. He was Baptist in faith. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Marcus, Tom, Wendell, Horace, Hoyte, Pearley and Goldman Raper, and two sisters, Lillian Allen and Dorothy Webster. In his spare time, Guy enjoyed gardening and butchering hogs. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include loving wife, Mary McHan Raper, three sons, Jerry Lee (Jennifer) Raper, Jeffrey Lynn (Eunie) Raper, Mark Anthony (Brandy) Raper, one daughter, Lisa Renae (Brad) Ledford, seven sisters, Gertrude Kilpatrick, Maggie Stiles, Louise Davenport, Irene Mathis, Reba Davis, Mary Long, and Marie Nations, three brothers, Truman, Charles, and Henry Raper, eleven grandchildren whom he cherished, Emily Ashton Raper, Stephanie Lee Raper, Ashley Lauren Raper, Tara Denise Raper, Tasha Nicole Raper, Nathaniel Carson Ledford, Evan Daniel Raper, Bradley Weston Ledford, Tate Andrew Raper, Braiden Steven Ledford, and Anna Claire Raper. Also a host of nieces and nephews survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the River Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Ledford and Rev. Eric Nations officiating. Music provided by Diane Davenport and Ed Vest. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Jason, Matthew, and James Raper, Joe Long, Michael Davis and Eric Nations. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Dockery, Lewis Voyles, JC Owenby, Clark Byers, David Patterson, Tim Garrett, Tom Wynn, Bill Stewart, Mike Mull, Anthony Shelton, Chris Acevedo, Danny Davis, Tommy Nation, Ted Sneed, Randall Sneed, Richard Caldwell, Jackie Burrell, Frank McHan, JL Little, Lloyd Stiles, Gerald Davenport and all of Guy's nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy on Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
