Guy Bradley

April 16, 1924 — March 30, 2020

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Reverend Guy Bradley, age 95, who passed away peacefully from natural causes on the late evening of March 30, 2020, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Guy was born on April 16, 1924 in Sylva, North Carolina, a son of the late James Harrison Bradley and Elba Dietz Bradley. He married Selma Irene Jones of Blairsville on May 11, 1949. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Blairsville. Guy's passions were the Gospel ministry, his family, hard work, and the cattle business. His sons will forever cherish their memories of buying cattle while sitting with him at livestock auctions. Guy was inducted into the 2019 Union County Agriculture Hall of Fame for his contributions to farming in Union County. Guy enjoyed worshipping God, gardening, and traveling with his wife of 68 years.

During his ministry, Reverend Bradley pastored several Baptist churches in North Georgia and Western North Carolina, including Fairview, Youngstown, South End (N.C.), Liberty, Philadelphia, and Old Liberty.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma, his parents and four brothers (Albert Jackson, Melvin Lewis, Grady Hampton and Robert Deral) and one sister (Janette Bradley Hall).

Surviving family members are two sons and two daughters-in-law: David and Nancy Bradley of Statham, Georgia, Harrison and Candy Bradley of Blairsville, and one daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Dr. Lewis McAfee of Blairsville, Georgia. He leaves behind six grandchildren and their spouses: Melanie and Eric Zufall, James and Kacie Bradley, Angela and Matt Haun, Stephen and Jean Bradley, Alison and Taylor Willingham, and Brad McAfee. The fourteen great-grandchildren are: Sandra, Reuben, and Lucy Zufall; Trey, Denver, Gabe, and Daniel Bradley; Chandler and Henry Haun; Liza, Luke, and Billy Bradley; and Abigail and Kaitlin Willingham. All the "grandchildren" will cherish fond memories of their precious "Papaw".

The family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Karisny and the staff of Union General Hospital, Stonehenge Senior Living, and Georgia Mountains Hospice for their care provided during the last several years.

A private funeral service with immediate family members was held on April 1, 2020, in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Guy's son, Rev. Harrison Bradley, officiating, along with grandson, James Bradley, and Pastor Justin Jarrett assisting. The grandsons served as pallbearers: James Bradley, Brad McAfee, Stephen Bradley, Trey Bradley, Denver Bradley, and Gabe Bradley.
