Gerald Lee Small

1947-2023

After completing his nursing training in Dayton Ohio, Jerry entered the army in 1967. He worked first in Fort Sam Houston, TX, then in Vietnam where he finished his tour with the Phu Bai Dust Off as a helicopter medic. When he returned home, he worked first at Hinsdale Hospital in Illinois then enrolled in Southern Adventist University and became a minister. During his student days he worked as a fireman and an EMT. He graduated and was married in 1974. After graduating, he spent 39 years pastoring in Pennsylvania. Five years ago, he retired to Murphy and he passed on Sunday, July 23 at Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville. Left behind are his wife Linda (Marshall), two sons, Dustin Small and Dylan Small, two daughters, Misty Small and Alina Pope, and 5 grandchildren- Hailey Pifer, Krysta Small, Sophie Lounsberry, Rory Small, and J.C. Pope, many other family members, and his beloved parishioners.

Visitation will be held from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Murphy, NC and service will follow at 1:00pm. Officiating is Elder Ray Hartwell.
