Mr. Gerald Dan McGaha Sr., age 74, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at his home.

Gerald was born in Towns County, Georgia, to the late Dock and the late Nellie Tatham McGaha. He was a veteren of the U.S. Navy, and had lived all his life in this area. He worked in electrical construction. Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna McGaha Stroud; sister, Avis Nichols; and brothers, J.T. McGaha and Carroll McGaha.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Opal Lovell McGaha, of Young Harris; daughter and son-in-law, CaSandra and Terry Warren, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald McGaha, Jr. and Shelia McGaha, of Chester, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Brandi McGaha, of Young Harris; and daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Michael Whitmire, of Young Harris; sisters: Wilma McConnell and Mary Young, both of Young Harris; Imogene Lewis, of Gainesville, Georgia; and Eula Mae Dotson, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brothers: Claude McGaha, of Roswell, Georgia; D.B. McGaha, of Young Harris; Charles McGaha of Manton, Michigan and Hoyle McGaha, of Michigan; grandchildren: Trevor McGaha, Shawnda Stroud, Daryl Green, Jordan McGaha, Jordan Patterson, Austin McGaha, Dillon McGaha, Peyton McGaha, and Nathan McGaha. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Gerald McGaha, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Trevor McGaha, Terry Warren, Earl Lovell, Michael Whitmire, Jonathan Pendergrass, and Jordan McGaha. Serving as honorary escort to the family is Daryl Green. Visitation at the funeral home will begin on Sunday, May 23, 2010, after 6 pm, with the family especially meeting with friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
