Mr. Gerald Albert "Jerry" Morenz, age 89, of Blairsville, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Jerry was born on July 17, 1929 in Warren Township, Michigan to the late John Albert & Lucille Herniman Morenz. A graduate of Lincoln High School, Jerry continued his education at Oakland University. He spent most of his career at the Oakland County Road Commission retiring as the Superintendent of the Signage Department in 1987. He and his family moved to Blairsville, GA at that time, where they quickly became loved by all. Jerry had been preceded in death by his son, Andrew, who passed away in 2001.
Jerry was a caring, compassionate, loving husband, father and grandfather. He always seemed to make himself available and was ready to assist anyone in need, no matter the circumstances or tasks involved. He was a man of true integrity who loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. He was an active and involved member of Faith Baptist Church where he participated in the choir, as well as teaching Sunday School. He also launched the Awana program for the children. Jerry enjoyed woodworking and built all types of furniture and cabinetry which he sold, donated and displayed at many businesses around Blairsville. As an avid sports enthusiast, Jerry enjoyed hockey, baseball, bowling and golf. He loved spending much of his time coaching and umpiring baseball and softball games. Jerry will be remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his loving wife, Rosalie of 53 years, and by his children, Gerald L. Morenz and his wife Jean of Michigan, Betty Carolyn Russart and her husband Rolf, of North Carolina, Wayne A. Morenz of Michigan, and Aaron J. Morenz of Florida. Also sharing in his legacy are eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
