Mr. George Thomas Johns, Sr. age 77 of Copperhill, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 at his home. George was born May 23, 1941 in New York City, NY. A member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, he was preceded in death by his parents, Harry J. and Helen Young Werner, three sisters, Barbara Rodrich, Jacqueline Gary and Grace Meyers, and one brother, Harry Werner. In 1971, George moved to Sarasota, FL where he owned and operated his own security company, afterwards he moved to Chattanooga in 1996 and then moved on to Copperhill nine years later where he owned and operated Copperhill Gun and Gun Smith. He served his country during the Korean War enlisting in the US Army. In his spare time, George enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working on guns.
Survivors include wife, Helen Johns, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Johns) Farver and Mark Farver, son and daughter-in-law, William and Lashanda Johns, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Monique Johns, son and daughter-in-law, George Thomas Jr. and Faith Johns, son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Tina Johns, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 7:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with Pastor Freddy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:30 am. Pallbearers include Mark Farver, William Johns, Brian Fowler, Jr., Jimmy Porter and Ron Clements.
