George Marshall Lance

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Marshall Lance, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who left this world on December 14, 2024, at the age of 70. Born in Murphy, North Carolina, on November 22, 1954, Marshall was a man whose passions and love for life resonated with everyone who knew him.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, Champ Lance Sr. and Edna Everett Lance; and brother, James Fulmer (Jennie) Lance.

Marshall devoted himself to his family, leaving behind his cherished wife, Rachel Payne Lance, and his beloved siblings: brothers Champ Lance Jr., Bobby (Janice) Lance and Larry (Jo) Lance, and sister Shirley (Darrel) Shook; son, Matthew Lance; stepson, Chris (Amanda) Anderson; and grandhildren, Landon and Emma Anderson. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Together, they hold dear the memories created over a lifetime – shared laughter, stories, and adventures that formed the fabric of their family bond.

He embraced his interests with enthusiasm, whether it was hit or miss days on the golf course, tinkering with antique cars, or engaging in lively card games with friends. His love of the great outdoors and fond conversations with companions brought joy and warmth to his ever-open heart.

Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance of Marshall’s life during the visitation scheduled for December 17, 2024,from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home & Crematory Blairsville Chapel. The funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm, where stories of his vibrant spirit and cherished memories will be shared. Following the service, Marshall will be honored through cremation.
