Mr. Garnie Lee Abercrombie, age 83 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Abercrombie was born Sunday, April 6, 1924 in Union County, GA to the late Charlie Abercrombie and the late Callie Harkins Abercrombie. He was of the Baptist Faith, a farmer, builder, brick mason, cabinet maker and a WWII Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by sons, Jerry, Kenneth and Larry Abercrombie, sisters, Myrtle Burnette and Gertrude Thweatt and brothers, John and Emory Abercrombie.
Survivors include: wife, of 59 years, Grace Abercrombie of Blairsville, GA, grandson and wife, Barry and Jenny Abercrombie of Chatsworth, GA, granddaughter and husband, Melissa and Perry Groves of Blairsville, GA, great granddaughters, Morgan and Savannah, great grandsons, John and Deacon, sister, Alma Little of Blairsville, GA and numerous other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hood and Rev. Scott McKechnie officiating. Music will be provided by Brian Sosensky. Interment will follow in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Perry Groves, Barry Abercombie, Bo Johnson, Herman Garrett, Bill Coker and Scott McKechnie. Honorary pallbearers include: Johnny Evans, Bobby Sexton, Clarence Gibson, Richard Morgan, Glenn Gooch, Jimmy Everett and Eugene McClure.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Saturday, July 28.
Garnie will be missed by all who knew him. He will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He truly touched the lives of all who knew him with his wonderful sense of humor.
