Mr. Fred Power Graham, age 84 of Mc Caysville, passed away October 12, 2014 at Fannin Regional Hospital. Mr. Graham was born May 31, 1930 in Pittsburg, PA .
Fred Graham is survived by his wife, Peggy McGeary Graham, his daughter, Sandra Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada, his son David Graham of Dallas, Texas and his sister Patricia Hayes Smith of Delphi University in McCaysville, GA.
He holds the highest recorded score on record with a rifle at Valley Forge Military Academy, Valley Forge, PA. He held expert awards with a MI and springfield sniper weapon as well as a score of 295 out of 300 in the Miami Police close combat range with a 45 automatic.
After college, he served in the Korean War with the ASA/NSA as Com. Intel. Cmdr. DF site six.
He was a Search & Rescue Pilot Cap/USAF Cmdr. (Major) of Cutler Cadet Squadron, Cutler Ridge, FL. This male/female squad was #1 in the nation for two years. He was also Cmdr. of Hawk Mountain Ranger School, Hawk Mountain, PA, Everglades Ranger Survival School and Mississippi Ranger Survival School.
Fred was a published writer (magazines and newspapers). A Psychic Medium, a stockbroker and a commodities broker. This took him from Miami to Dallas, Laguna Beach and New York. He was Manager of the brokers at First National Monetary Corporation at the World Trade Center in New York, NY. He and Peggy lived in Stamford, CT at this time.
He retired to McCaysville, GA in 2000. In 2001, he had a stroke which left his arm, leg and eyes impaired. Peggy was his caregiver for 14 years. Together, they raised countless rescued dogs (Beagles, Goldens, Labs, Dobies, Papillons, Shar-Pei's and Shepherds). One of his favorites, a black lab, Sparky, had a special talent for seeking out treasures. He would open up UPS packages and carry the contents into the woods. He had a fondness for yellow daffodils and once brought us a 4 ft Spiderman doll from somewhere on the planet.
Fred and Peggy were married for 10 years, divorced for 14 years and remarried for 13 more years. Fred's biggest accomplishment was, after 23 years of marriage, he kept his wife, Peggy laughing right up until the day he died. On December 26, 2013, Fred celebrated his 6th year of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous.
A memorial service was held at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00 with friends meeting to visit from 1:00 until time for the service..
