Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces memorial services for Mrs. Frankie P. Smith, age 81, of Hiawassee, who passed away on Friday evening, March 31, 2017 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Mrs. Smith was born in Rex, Georgia, a daughter of the late Walter Franklin Phillips and the late Clara Mae Pitts Phillips. She had been living in Hiawassee since 1998, and was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee. Frankie will be known for her love of God, country, and family. She taught Sunday School, young women's Bible studies, was an active member of the WMU, and a regular church attendee all of her life. On the Fourth of July, flying American flags, standing tall for the national anthem, and honoring our country would be very typical for Frankie. As a wife, she was devoted to Harold for sixty-four years, standing by his side through many decades: a true depiction of love and devotion. Both loved to travel and were often on an adventure together. Frankie was also a caring and serving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved unconditionally and always enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Although small in stature, Frankie had a big heart and servant hands that will be remembered by many in the days and years to come.
Surviving family members left to treasure the memories of Frankie are: her husband, Harold, of Hiawassee; son, Philip Smith, of Dover, Tennessee; and daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jay Simonton, of Sharpsburg, Georgia; sister, Betty Born, of Hiawassee; grandchildren: Stephanie Freeman, Phil (Jamee) Smith, Kaitlin (Josh) Powell, Mary Simonton, Hannah Simonton, and Bethany Simonton.
Memorial services have been scheduled for Sunday, April 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny Byers officiating. The family will meet with friends before the memorial services starting at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions be made to McConnell Memorial Building Fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee. Please share your condolences and fond memories with the family on our website, cochranfuneralhomes.com.
