Mr. Frank Walter Kirby, affectionately kown as "George" and "Papaw", age 67, of Hiawassee, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at his home after an extended illness
He was a Jehovah's Witness and a member of the Hiawassee Congregation.
Frank was born December 29, 1943 in Hiawassee, the seventh of eight children of Gordon H.Kirby, Sr. and Cora Wood Kirby.
He lived in the Fodder Creek Community all of his life. Frank worked at the US Postal Servce in his younger years and was a school bus driver in Towns County for 10 years. He was a liscensed electrician and plumber.
Frank is survived by 2 children, Diane and her husband Ricky Garrett of Hiawassee, GA and Kimberly and her husband Jeff Youngblood of Hiawassee, GA; 3 grandchildren: Richard Emory Garrett and wife Casey of Hiawassee, GA, Zachary Kirby Nicholson and wife Rachel of Live Oak, FL and Aaren Jade Garrett of Hiawassee, GA; 1 great-grandchild: Noah Zachary Nicholson of Live Oak, FL; Sisters: Velza Barrett, Marie Gregory, both of Hiawassee, GA, and Ann Franks of Clarkesville, GA; Brothers: Gordon Kirby, Jr. and Bobby Kirby of Hiawassee, GA and many family members and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Gordon Sr. and Cora Kirby, sister, Lula Belle Kirby and brother, Warren Kirby.
A funeral service discourse will be given by Brother Mike Shoemaker of the Hiawassee, Georgia Congregation of Jehovah's Wintesses at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1st at the Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee. Graveside services will follow at Enotah Cemetery, Hiawassee, GA. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Richard Garrett, Steven Kirby, Kevin Barrett, Kenny Barrett, Scotty Bradley and Douglas Rogers. Zachary Nicholson will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 am.
