Pastor Francis Royal Scott, 93, of Blairsville passed away February 19, 2012, he was born to Elmer and Ida Mae Scott March 20, 1918 in Arcadia, Florida, the fifth of seven children. He was a well educated man, a dedicated pastor, teacher, and missionary. He attended Graysville Academy in Graysville, TN., Forest Lake Academy in Orlando, FL., Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Mass., Spicer College in India where he was ordained into the gospel ministry, and Potomac University in Washington, DC. where he received his Masters degree. He has served as pastor, teacher, missionary and friend in and out of the country, Serving in Sri Lanka, New York, Nebraska, & Burma all before moving to Blairsville at the age of 65. After building their home in Blairsville, GA. Pastor Scott began to gather Adventists living in the county who wished to be a part of a new church. In 1988 they held their first meeting in the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church where they stayed for 2 1/2 years. The church members themselves and out of town volunteers broke ground and began building their Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fannin County in 1991 from the ground up. The new church was dedicated in 1992 with 154 in attendance and organized into a church the same day with 28 Charter members. The church has continued to expand over the years with Pastor Scott right by their side.Pastor Scott retired in 2005 with a stable and ever growing church. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"
Pastor Scott is lovingly survived by his wife, Ernestine Elrod Owen Scott, daughters; Patricia Scott and Carrie Harrell, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, step son, Gerald Owen, two step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, brother in law, Chester Elrod.
Funeral Services for Pastor Scott will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Fannin County with Pastor Robert Fancher officiating. He will lie in state from 1:00 until service at 2:00.
Contributions to the Seventh Day Adventist Church Memorial Building Fund are also being accepted.
