Exie Lynn

August 5, 1954 — October 14, 2013

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Exie Lynn Roy, age 59 of Hiawassee who passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at her home after a courageous 8 year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Lynn was born in Cairo, Georgia on August 5, 1954 to the late Thomas Preston Peel and Faye Rackley Peel of Camilla, Georgia. She grew up in Camilla where she learned to embrace traditional family values. Lynn was a graduate of the University of West Georgia, earning a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation, she taught for 2 years in Whitfield County and then 28 years in Coweta County before retiring with over 30 years of dedicated service. Her heart was teaching and her students were her children. Her positive outlook on life not only impacted countless youth, but served as an inspiration to everyone that she encountered. Lynn's easy going personality and love for people allowed her to hold a conversation with anyone. This unique ability to gain friends and meet new people is why she enjoyed traveling across the nation to the places like the Grand Canyon or visiting Disney World. Lynn was a member of Mount Pleasant Church of God in Hiawassee. She was a blessing many.

She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: loving husband of 19 years, Brian N. Roy; stepdaughter, Courtney Roy of Dallas, Georgia; sister, Beth Gilliard and her husband Ron of Bainbridge, Georgia; niece, Allison Harrell and her husband Bill and their son, William of Whigham, Georgia; and special friend and caretaker, Carolyn Garrett of Hayesville, North Carolina.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Eller officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow at Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.
