Evelyn Windham, age 86, of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in Blue Ridge. Evelyn was born August 21, 1937, in Marietta, GA to Ernest and Eva Ingram.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Ingram, Ralph Ingram, Joe Ingram, and Harry Ingram; father, Ernest Ingram; and mother, Eva Young Ingram.
She is survived by her husband, Herb Windham; sons, Don (Jenny) LeSesne and Johnny (Mary) LeSesne; grandchildren, Justin (Alex) LeSesne, Destin (Megan) LeSesne, Austin (Tami) LeSesne, and Brooklyn LeSesne, great-grandchildren, Riley Shepherd, Hunter LeSesne, and Archer LeSesne; and brother, Edward Ingram.
Evelyn grew up with five brothers and was the only daughter of Ernest and Eva. She was the first female builder in Cobb County. She and Herb moved to Blue Ridge over 35 years ago. She owned Lake Blue Ridge Marina.
Eve will continue to be the heart of her family; whether it is an Ingram, LeSesne, Windham, or a multitude of other families whom she took in and raised. Her home was open to all and she helped many to straighten their path. She loved all of her nieces and nephews so very much. She took care of some of her brothers before they went home and loved them all dearly. Eve was the life of the party and instigated so many fun memories. She could maneuver you in the direction she wanted to go effortlessly. She was a leader and had tremendous vision. She was humble, kind, and thoughtful of others.
Eve met her husband Herb at Lockheed Martin where they both worked. And so began a 55 year romance and love story. Two intelligent people who loved fiercely. Herb became a dad to her two sons and Pawpaw to the grands and great-grands. During her sickest days in the past year or so, Herb met her every request and took excellent care of the woman he loved. They were a formidable team. She was a formidable woman.
Her favorite place was the beach. She bought a home in 1973 that became 'The Beach House' in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. Oh, if those walls could talk. Later in life in 2021 she moved into a beautiful penthouse that she and Herb called their 'Love Nest', a place she loved immensely. She said just the other day that she could see the ocean regardless of where she was in that condo. She loved the ocean, beautiful art; of which she collected many pieces and she loved antiques. She loved her plants and took care of them and shared them with everyone. You might have seen her on the back of Herb's Harley, enjoying the wind in her face as she hugged her man. Eve and Herb loved to travel and take family cruises as often as their schedule would allow.
Lake Blue Ridge Marina is where you can see her collection of antiques and her family working hard to continue her legacy. Turning a trailer into a restaurant and bar, hosting a remarkable showroom for boat sales, managing boat slips, and supporting the maintenance of the boats moored there. When she was at the marina she loved greeting the visitors. She remembered all of her customer's names and who their family members were, she loved to hear their stories.
Eve was a people person at the core of her being. A woman full of love, vision, intelligence, compassion, and grace. A Classy Lady.
If you took the time to honor her by your attendance today, you knew her love. Once you've known Eve's love you will never be able to forget it.
