Evelyn Huston Blackburn

June 23, 1937 — April 8, 2009

Mrs. Evelyn Hudson Blackburn, age 71, of McCaysville, GA, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Fannin Regional Hospital, Blue Ridge, GA. Mrs. Blackburn was born Wednesday, June 23, 1937 in Sampson County, NC to the late Laudie Hudson and the late Lizzie Tyndall Hudson. Evelyn was secretary to her husband, Dr. Gene Blackburn at the Rock of Ages Ministries for seventeen years; including the years of pastorate prior to becoming a missonary, she served faithfully alongside her husband for more than forty years sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.

She enjoyed singing, serving her Lord and adored her husband, children and grandchildren; while her main goal was to assist her husband and help encourage other missionaries along their way. She made a difference in this world to those, for the most part, who are never thought of. Our lives are blessed with sweet memories and her legacy of a woman of faith and virtue.

She was preceded in death by one son, Chris Blackburn, sister, Celestial H. Butler, and brother, Joe Hudson.

Survivors include: husband, Dr. Gene Maurice Blackburn of McCaysville, GA; daughter & son-in-law Vickie B. & Samuel Manning of Walkertown, NC; daughter & son-in-law, Kellie B.& Randall Childress of Walkertown, NC; son & daughter-in-law, Maurice & Debra Blackburn of Brown Summit, NC; sister, Jean Wray of Fayetteville, NC; brothers, Ottis Hudson of Fayetteville, NC, Pete Hudson of Zionsville, IN, Gerald Hudson of Fayetteville, NC, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home. Evelyn will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will be in Ingold Baptist Cemetery on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in Ingold, NC

The family will receive friends at Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Friday, April 10, 2009 6:00 Pm to 9:00 P.M..

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Rock of Ages Ministry, P.O. Box 2308 Cleveland, TN. 37320, marked in memory of Evelyn Blackburn.
