Evelyn Curtiss, age 64 of Murphy, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.
Evelyn was born Monday, July 12, 1943 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Carmen Iglesias of New Rochelle, NY. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on May 15, 1962. She worked as a Multilingual Overseas Operator speaking at least 4 languages for Bell and also in finances for the Bank of Tokyo. She was an actress and appeared in several off Broadway plays. She married at age 29 and moved to Massachusetts. In 1975 she moved with her family to help a newly formed congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Big Stone Gap, VA. It was there that she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and has battled with it for 33 years. Despite her illness she was known by all to always have a smile on her face. She was loved by many and will be missed very much by her family.

Curtiss of Murphy, NC, daughter, Diana Lynne Campochiaro (Mom's Rose) and husband William of Bristol, CT, son, David Paul Curtiss of Hernando, FL, daughter, Lisa Marie Whitener (Mom's Daisy) and husband James Archie Whitener of Murphy, NC, son, Jeffery Scott Curtiss (Mom's Cup of Tea) and wife Jane of Lees Run, OH, sister, Eileen Stodut of New Rochelle, NY, sister, Hope Thorne of Seattle, WA, 8 grandchildren, Jessica Blattler, Jennifer Breazeale of Murphy, NC, Kristen Tripp of Mineral Bluff, GA, Maryann Walters of Johnson City, TN, Jeffery Whitener of Chattanooga, TN, Bianca Noisuex and Marrissa Campochiaro of Bristol, CT and Jeremy Curtiss of Lebanon, NY, 8 great grandchildren, Zackary Dugger, Matthew Walter, Hailey Walters, Sarah Walters and Mason Walters all of Johnson City, TN, Lauren Breazeale of Murphy, NC, Blake Noisuex and Mason Noisuex of Bristol, CT, nieces, Olivia Throne and Tonya Thorne of Seattle, WA, nephew, Christian Serrano and wife Terresa, of New Rochelle, NY and great nephew, Christian Serrano, Jr.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Leonard West officiating.
