Eunice (nell) Shockley

July 15, 1925 — January 25, 2008

Eunice (Nell) Shockley 82, passed away Jan. 25, 2008 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home in Murphy, NC. Her devoted husband of 52 years, Hubert (Red) Shockley, died in 1998. Nell retired from Kelly AFB San Antonio, TX in 1990 after 30 years of service with the Department of Defense. She began her civil service career at Brookley AFB Mobile, AL. Nell moved with her family from Mobile to San Antonio in 1967. She had lived in Hayesville, NC with her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Gene Lary, since 2004 and loved the community and all the friends she had made. She was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church in Brasstown, NC and a former member of Village Parkway Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX. She is survived by her daughter Brenda and special son-in-law Gene Lary of Hayesville who took such good care of her, and by her loving daughter Barbara (Mitzi) Rountree and husband Tom of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by the three lights of her life; her grandsons Thomas (Casey) Rountree of Houston, TX; Adam Rountree of San Antonio and Zachary Rountree of San Antonio. They brought such happiness to their Granny and Paw Paw. Nell loved growing up in a large close family that included ten brothers and sisters and numerous cousins. She is survived by one very loving sister, Ernie Brigtsen of River Ridge, LA. Nell will be buried with her husband at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
