Eunice P May

Eunice Alice Price May, age 92, passed away the morning of October 1, 2023, at home in Higdon, near Blue Ridge, Georgia. Eunice was born January 21, 1931, in Melrose, Florida to Russell Allen Price and Maude Sikes Price. She attended Toccoa Falls Institute, now Toccoa Falls College, where she met Joseph May, who she married June 18, 1950. She also attended Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, Virginia, and worked for Thiokol Corporation as a keypunch operator. She worked for Bell Telephone early in her career as a switchboard operator in Toccoa GA and Tampa FL, and later as a directory information operator in Ankeny IA. While in Tennessee, she went to beauty school and received her license in Georgia as a cosmetologist. She was an excellent cook and loved to garden. She had beautiful vegetable gardens as well as a daylily garden, and loved to be outside at her mountain home in north Georgia.


Eunice was preceded in death by her infant son, Joseph Raymond May Jr., and her husband Rev. Joseph Raymond May Sr.  Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Timothy Strawn, and daughters Nancy May Matunde and Janice May; two grandchildren adopted as children, Shannon May-Wheeler and Shawn Wheeler, and four other grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Strawn, A. Joseph May and Silhouette Jarmon-Gigetts; and ten great-grandchildren.

 
She will be laid to rest with her husband in the National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. At her wishes, the family will have a private memorial.
