Mr. Eugene Edward (Boge) Boggs of Ducktown, TN passed away Friday October 28th 2016 at Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga after several months of declining health. He was born December 5, 1927 to Gourley Wallace Boggs and Lillian Chancey Boggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Wallace (Chock) Boggs, and daughter-in law Sharon Oliver Boggs. He was a graduate of Ducktown High School and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Following a brief stint working in Gary, Indiana, Boge returned to Ducktown where he was employed by the Tennessee Copper Company and Cities Service Corporation for 47 years; mainly as a repairman at London Mill. Boge was an active and engaged union member throughout his working life. The rights of the working man were very important to him.
After his retirement in 1987, Boge worked part-time at TriState Gas until 2006.
Boge married Bonnie Lou Cordell on June 13, 1953. Together they raised six children: John Gurley of Hiwassee Dam, NC, Cynthia Moss (Ronny) of Delano, TN, Dr. Mary Boggs Lane of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Louanne Lawhorn Osborne (Clarke) of Lithia, FL, Martha Boggs (David Patterson) of Knoxville TN, and Patti Welch (Jeff) of McCaysville, GA.
Boge was a devoted grandfather to Nick, Derrick, Amy, Andrew J. and special granddaughter, Sondra. He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion, Juno.
Boge loved his hometown of Ducktown and its people and he had a great affection for the people he encountered during his daily rounds; loving nothing better than stopping to share a good story. He knew everyone and everyone knew him.
Funeral services were held October 31, 2106 at the chapel of Finch Cochran Funeral home. Services were conducted by Rev. Larry Welch. Pallbearers were Gurley Boggs, Ronny Moss, David Patterson, Jeff Welch, Nick Welch and Derrick Welch. Interment followed at Crestlawn Cemetary.
