Ernest Wardlaw Seckinger

March 22, 1950 — September 2, 2017

Ernest Wardlaw Seckinger, Jr. of Hiawassee (Hog Creek) passed away suddenly on the afternoon of September 2, 2017.

Ernie was born on March 22, 1950 in Savannah, GA to the late Ernest Wardlaw Seckinger, Sr. and Jessie Vannerson Seckinger. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Betty, sons Eric and Chris, daughter-in-law Amanda, grandson Zachary, sister Charlotte, brothers Andy, David and Peter, and best friend Wendy.

As the son of a Methodist Minister, Ernie grew up in every town in south Georgia, while spending many summers in Young Harris. It was at Young Harris College where he met his wife, Betty, and grew to love the north Georgia mountains. He spent thirty years in Mobile, AL working for the US Army Corps of Engineers, while raising two sons.

After retirement, he moved back to his beloved mountains of Towns County, where he could follow his passions for books and bar-b-que. He was elected Chair of the Towns County Library Board and truly cherished cooking for his many family and friends in Towns County.

Ernest Seckinger, Jr. lived life in a very deliberate manner. He was always searching for the truths that life could teach, ensuring that his life was certainly well lived. His journey has left a mark on his many family, friends, colleagues and loved ones, and has made the world a better place.

Ernie was never afraid to speak his mind on any subject. He cherished his family, friends and neighbors, and was always a friendly and encouraging voice to anyone in need of comforting words. As a husband, father, brother, son, uncle, cousin and a friend, he offered a steady hand of kindness and guidance in a complicated world.
