Mr. Ernest Nathan Dowdy, Jr. - Husband, Daddy, Opa, and Friend - age 71, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at his home.

Nathan was born in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday, December 13, 1941, a son of the late Ernest Nathan Dowdy and the late Ruth Phillips Dowdy. Nathan grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, and graduated from Florida State University. He had also studied abroad in Munich, Germany. Nathan was an independent contractor, a builder of homes and dreams....an inventor of ideas and simple conspiracies! He enjoyed working in the greenhouse; was a yard-dweller and a sower of characters. A lover of animals, he loved the little furry buggers and bought them in as friends. During his lifetime, Nathan had been a world traveler and a space explorer. He had a life-long love affair with his wife, bacon, grilled cheeses with raspberry jelly and horseradish, hazelnut yogurt, Gummy Bears and Jelly Beans. Nathan had lived out the last of his days in Hiawassee, Georgia.

Surviving family members include his wife, Barbara Dowdy, of Hiawassee; three daughters: Geraldine Dowdy, of Munich, Germany, Shawna Roberts, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Vanessa Mickler, of Satellite Beach, Florida; a son, Keith Carew, of Ontario, Canada; Grandchildren: Emmett Carew, Vincent Dowdy, Hattie Finn Carew, Josephine Dowdy, Owen Roberts and Maggie Roberts; two sisters, Barbara Allen of Hiawassee and Pat Johnson, of Baltimore, Maryland; mother-in-law, Marguerite Corthesy;

No services have been planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a caring charity of your choice.
