Eric Lionel John Penfold, M.Sc. born August 6, 1916 and passed away December 15, 2007.
Eric was born in Billericay, Essex, England to William John and Ruth Einle Foster Penfold. He was educated in England with both post-graduate and technical training. He was employed by General Electric Research, and Royal London Hospital, in the medical instrument research workshop.
He was a founding and life Member of the GA Chapter, of Silver Wings Fraternity, Life Member of the National Rifle Association, A founding and life member of the American Air Museum in Britain, a member of the Science Technology Institute, National Association Watch and Clock Collectors, co-author of a number of scientific and technical published papers.
Eric had many interest and diverse activities. He was an accomplished organist, restored antique grandfather clocks and mantel clocks. He was a mechanic on the Ferria Race Team. As a young man in England he earned a black belt in Judo. He also soloed in a fixed wing aircraft and received his pilots license in 1936.
Eric relocated to the U.S.A. in 1960. He was the director of medical instrument research workshop at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. After retiring in 1989 Eric and Cecile made their home in Fannin County, GA
Survivors include his wife of thirty five years, Cecile Hall Cate Penfold of Mineral Bluff, GA, one son, Roy Eric Penfold of Bedfordshire, two grandsons, Eric C. Penfold of IL, Nigel Penfold of Herefordshire, England, who dearly loved him. Many Loyal friends of forty five years, Dr. John Sadler and wife, Joan. Neighbors by fate, friends by choice, Rick and Sherry Wilcox.
There will be a celebration of life and remembrance Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home, 3711 Highway 515, Blue Ridge, GA at 2:00 P.M
