Mr. Emerson Claude Rogers, age 88, of Turtletown, passed away Friday May 6, 2011 in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mr. Rogers was born on November 12, 1922 to the late Robert N. Rogers and Eula McDowell Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was a WWII veteran serving in the 854th Aviation Engineering Battalion, in the U. S. Army. He was a rural mail-carrier and retired after 31 years of government service.
Mr. Rogers was an avid bear hunter. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ducktown for more than 50 years. He cherished the times spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Reid Rogers, brothers Hoyt L. Rogers, Calvin “Jay” Rogers, and sister Mildred Leonard.
Left to cherish his memory include his son Claude (Ateca) Rogers of Turtletown, and daughters Barbara (John) Sparacino of Long Beach, Mississippi, and Caroyl Rogers of Turtletown. “Papaw” was dearly loved by six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Charles Rogers of Harrison, Tennessee, and sisters, Evelyn West of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Opal Bobo of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Funeral services was held Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM from the Finch Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Luke Hall officiating. Serving as pallbearers were the following grandsons, Loring Rogers, Eric Rogers, Roger Ross, Ricky Wright, Charles Tyer, and Damian Everett. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the DaVita Smoky Mountain Dialysis Clinic at 1611 Andrews Rd. Murphy, NC 28906.
