Elvin (EJ) Johnson, Jr. died at his home on July 13, 2021 at the age of 75. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 24, 1945 but spent his life in Lake Wales, Florida. He was an engineer for Florida Power for 36 years. In 1964, EJ married Bonnie Lawrence, and they had two sons, EJ and Tommy.
EJ was blessed with a magnetic personality and an infectious laugh. It was said, "He never met a stranger." People simply enjoyed being around him. The ocean and beach energized him, and he spent countless hours in his Sea Ray exploring the intercoastal waterways.
He loved to cook, and he was good at it. He loved to build things, and he was good at that too. He and Joan, his devoted partner of 20 years, lived in a log home in the beautiful north Georgia mountains. They would jump-start their mornings at Cabin Coffee and then continue the day feeding their birds, loving their dogs, and creating wonderful meals from EJ's outdoor kitchen on the deck. It was idyllic.
EJ was preceded in death by his father Elvin and his mother Hazel. He is survived by his partner Joan, his sons, EJ and Tommy, his grandchildren, EJ and Abby, and several cousins. Donations may be sent to the Leukemia Society.
