Elizabeth White Long

Elizabeth White Long, age 93 of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Long was born Thursday, September 4, 1913 in Crisp County, GA to the late Arthur White and the late Willie Smith White. She was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Long had also been an active member of the Chatuge Hospital Auxillary, and the Friendship Community Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinn Long, sons, Arthur Quinn Long and Gerald White Long and sisters, Madeline Lewis and Dorothy Smith.

Elizabeth Long loved her family, friends, church, as well as her pets, plants and wonderful view of Lake Chatuge . She and her husband began vacationing in Hiawassee in 1946 and finally were able to retire here. Although she had traveled extensively throughout the country her first love was Hiawassee. Her family and friends will miss her greatly, but celebrate a life well lived.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Walter Harold and Linda Long of Palm Coast, FL, daughter, Elizabeth Ann Long Digh of Covington, GA, grandchildren, Gregory Quinn Long, Douglas Michael Long, Cynthia Diane Long, Deborah Digh McCanless, David Digh, Jeff Long, Ken Long, Cynthia Long and Skip Long, Many great grandchildren and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darris Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hills Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be: Ben Lilly, James Digh, Larry Sorgen, David Digh, Jeff Long and Bryan Long. Honorary pallbearer will be, Jim Adderholt.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Wednesday, July 11.

Mrs. Long will lie in state starting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
