.Eileen Francis Link, 82, of Athens Georgia, died Sunday May 4th 2014.
She was born to the late William and Emily O'Keeffe, March 24th 1932, in the Bronx, New York. She married her loving and devoted husband Robert E. Link, Jr. in 1954 and they lived together in Great Neck and Oyster Bay, NY, before relocating to Athens GA in 2012.
The fourth born of eight children, she was affectionately nicknamed "Big Babe" by her father. After graduating from St. Jean Baptiste High School in Manhattan, she went on to work at the NY Times prior to marrying. The daughter of Irish immigrants, Eileen was a woman of strong opinions with a fierce loyalty to Ireland and its diaspora. She was actively involved in church affairs, especially at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Great Neck, where she served on various committees over many years. Eileen was an avid reader and film enthusiast. She took pride in her extensive vocabulary and was often heard to say that the dictionary was her favorite book.
Eileen is survived by her husband, five children: Robert, Kerry, Patricia, Nora and Alannah and three grandchildren, Kathryn, Isabelle and Robert. She is also survived by her siblings, Emily, Rosaleen, Una, Patricia and William. She was predeceased by her sisters Kathleen and Mary.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to St. Mary's Foundation CADC 1230 Baxter St. Athens, GA 30606.
Funeral Mass; Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Fr. John Conway officiating. Interment will follow in the Kensico Cemetery of Valhalla, NY on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm.
Visitation: Friday, May 9, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with prayer service at 3:30 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA.
