Mr. Edward Bunnell, age 90 of Young Harris, GA, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Union General Hospital.
Edward was born Wednesday, October 2, 1918 in Madison County, IN to the late John Earl Bunnell and the late Agnes Rachael Kellenburger Bunnell. He was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by brothers, John Bunnell and Don Bunnell, sisters, Betty Wagoner, Ellen Lowe, Bee DeLong and Ebbie Mason.
Ed's life was full of his love for Christ, God's word, family and friends. He had a life full of accomplishments. Ed was the first Eagle Boy Scout in White Co. IN., boxed in the Golden Glove tournament, a WWII Army Air Corp. Capt. and pilot in both war theaters, a 1949 civil engineering graduate of Purdue University, and a member of Masonic Lodge. He was a career civil engineer working across the US with Sverdrup and Parcel (now Jacob's Engineering). Notable projects included the Illinois Toll Road and The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. He later worked as project manager for construction of the Hart Suspension Bridge and the Hart and the J. Turner Butler Blvd. Expressway Systems in Jacksonville, FL., as well as the Florida Keys Bridges.
Survivors include: wife, of 62 years, Charlotte Bunnell of Young Harris, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Jeff and Linda Bunnell of Jacksonville, FL, son & daughter-in-law, Dan and Marsha Bunnell of Greenville, SC, daughter & son-in-law, Diane and Bill Flynn of Gulf Breeze, FL, 8 grandchildren and a great grandson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Darris Baker and Rev. Brian Bunnell officiating. Music will be provided by, Pam Leslie. Serving as pallbearers are: grandsons, Brian Bunnell, Mark Bunnell, Matt Bunnell, Sean Flynn, Mick Flynn and Mike Felger.
Military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church from 1-2 P.M., Wednesday, March 4.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church Library or Towns County Food Pantry.
The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
