Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mr. Edmond E. Babinsky, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away peacefully on July 29, 2014 after an extended illness. He was age 93.
Ed was born December 9, 1920 in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late Andrew Babinsky and Julia Kayati Babinsky. Ed was fourth of twelve children born of this union. He was a veteran of the US Army from Aug 1942 to Jan 1946, serving in the Corps of Engineers. During the time of his enlistment he attended MIT for one year, majoring in chemical engineering. In August 1944 he was married to his late wife Marjorie Tulip of Youngstown and they had three children. After his discharge from service Ed attended the University of Buffalo and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later Ed and a friend formed a partnership, Jacobus and Babinsky Engineering Consultants in the Buffalo area. Sometime later the partnership was dissolved and Ed continued his engineering career as Babinsky Engineering, which he operated until his retirement in 1985 and moved to Cape Coral, FL.
Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and an uncle to many. His favorite activities were boating and woodworking. He was very active in the United States Power Squadron in Cape Coral, instructing many safe boating classes. He was also a past Squadron Commander of the Cape Coral unit.
Ed and wife Betty, moved from Cape Coral to Young Harris, Georgia in 1996 and then to Blairsville, GA in 2000. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Elmer Babinsky, William Babinsky, Charles Babinsky, Theodore Babinsky, Andrew Babinsky; and sisters, Julia Babinsky and Margaret Babinsky.
Surviving Mr. Babinsky are his loving wife Betty Jean (Waggoner) Babinsky of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Robert) Klein of E. Amherst, NY; son, Edmond Babinsky of Westboro, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy (Arnold) Clubine of Buffalo; sister, Eleanor Varga of Grand Island, NY; sister Marie Varga of Buffalo; sister Dorothy Babinsky of Angels Camp, CA; brother Joseph Babinsky, of Prescott, AZ; grandchildren: Chris (Michelle) Klein, Andrew Klein, Sarah Clubine (Jay) Sandusky, Michael Clubine, Katherine Clubine, Erin Babinsky, and Nicholas Babinsky; great-grandchildren, Kayla Sandusky, Lauren Klein, Christopher Klein and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Babinsky was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, PCA.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Grace Presbyterian, PCA, 2310 Young Harris Hwy, Blairsville, GA.
