Mr. E.P. Stewart, 98 of McCaysville passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Fannin Regional Hospital. Mr. Stewart was born January 18, 1919 in Ashland City, TN to the late Samuel L. Stewart and the late Lucy J. Barr Stewart. A longtime member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in McCaysville E.P. enjoyed singing in the choir and served as choir director for some time. He was a professional musician and enjoyed playing guitar. He was also an avid golfer and worked for Tennessee Copper Company for 40 years. E.P. served his country bravely during WWII enlisting in the US Army and receiving a purple heart. He was the oldest living Deacon and the oldest living Veteran of WWII in Fannin County.
Survivors include loving wife of 76 years, Mary Evelyn Stewart, two sons, Bob (Kathy) Stewart and Larry Stewart, one brother, Bill Stewart, one sister, Mary Ellen Beard, two grandchildren, Lori (Gary) Nicholson, Ginger Stewart and three great-grandchildren, Lindsey Cole, Nikki (Sgt. Chris) Campbell and Tripp Loudermilk.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. James Mitchell and Rev. Mathew McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tripe Loudermilk, Gary Nicholson, Greg Panter, Greg Martin and Larry Newberry. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville and employees of Pruitt Healthcare.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home from 5-8 pm.
