Douglas "Bawley" Hedden

February 27, 1926 — March 25, 2011

Mr. Douglas Hedden, age 85, of Hiawassee passed away Friday evening in the North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Mr. Hedden was born February 27, 1926 in Towns County, Georgia, to Ed and Belle Stroud Hedden. He was a lifelong resident of Towns County and a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. He was also a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Hedden was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Ketron Hedden; and sisters, Mary Shook, Joyce Mills, Peggy McClure, Virginia Seagers and Dottie Hedden.

Survivors include: Son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Hedden of Hiawassee, step-daughter, June Souther of Hiawassee, brother and sister-in-law, Edward Jr. and Linda Hedden of Hiawassee, sisters, Patricia Plott of Blairsville, Ellen Sue Wilson of Rogersville, TN and Kate Waldroup of Hiawassee; grandchildren, Sherry Hedden Rogers and her husband Israel, Barry Hedden, Christopher Souther and Lauren Souther and great grandchildren, Noah and Riley Rogers and Braydon and Breanna Hedden. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Monday from the Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Rayburne Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by Mike Garrett. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 until 9 pm. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Michael Plott, Ike Waldroup, Russell Hedden, David Shook, Dennis McClure and Bill Foster. The following gentlemen will serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Gene Rogers and Doug Chastain.

Interment will be in the Osborn Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Osborn Cemetery or to the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
