Dorothy Elaine Hardaway

Elaine P. Hardaway, 84, of Mineral Bluff, died Sept. 27, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Hardaway was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Philadelphia, to the late John Owings Preston and Mildred Longfellow Preston. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and a long time resident of Miami, Fla., before moving to Georgia. She was an honor student at Miami Edison High School, a member of The National Honor Society and Quill and Scroll. She had a lifelong interest in journalism and literature, and was a member of the alumni association of the University of Miami.She was an active member of South Miami Methodist Church for 55 years and also was an active member of Miami Pioneers Club. She had a deep interest in Florida history, especially that of Miami.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Thomas Hardaway.

Survivors include daughter Kathryn Suvada of Mineral Bluff, son Glenn Thomas Hardaway of Lake Helen, Fla., daughter and son-in-law Evelyn and Michael Brown of McCaysville, grandson and wife Michael and Nicolle Suvada of Plantation, FL, and granddaughter Anne Suvada of Woodstock, GA.

Funeral services were held Oct. 29, 2006, at noon from the Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Davidson and the Rev. J. Wesley Privett officiating.
Interment followed in the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla., in November.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dr. William Mitchell, Copper Basin Veterinarian Clinic / Second Chance Animal Rescue, 168 Tenn., Ave, McCaysville, Ga., 30555.
