Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Dorothy D. Byers, age 90, of Blairsville, who passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in Dallas, Georgia.
Dorothy was a native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, and was born in 1926, to Eli Daniel and Laura Davenport Daniel. She was the last living of twelve children. Dorothy owned and operated her own poultry farm, a large scale operation. She loved the mountains where she was born and raised, and never entertained a desire to leave. Dorothy had been preceded in death by her parents; her sons David Byers and Randy Byers; and eleven siblings. No grandmother ever cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than Dorothy.
Surviving family members left to treasure her memory are: daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tommy Dyer, of Blairsville; and son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Angie Byers, of Dallas, Georgia; Grandchildren: Ronda Allen, Scott Byers, Tim Dyer, Doug Byers, Sean Byers and Amanda Carter; eleven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017, to be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville. Officiating the service will be Rev. Kevin Collins, with eulogies by grandsons Scott Byers and Sean Byers. Special music will be presented by Sean Byers. Grandsons will have the honor of serving as pallbearers: Scott Byers, Sean Byers, Doug Byers, Tim Dyer, Daniel Dyer, and Randy Carter. Serving as honorary escort will be grandson Dustin Byers. Burial will be in Ivy Log Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Saturday, April 1, 2017, beginning at 12 noon and lasting until the service starts at 3:00 p.m.
