Doris Bishop

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Doris Bishop, age 89, of Blairsville, who passed away late Wednesday night, December 10, 2014, at her home.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Macon, Georgia, on April 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Travis Haynes Smith and the late Ossie McEachern Smith. She had been living in Blairsville since 2012, moving here from Fayetteville, Georgia. Doris was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Union County. She loved her church and attended faithfully until her health kept her from attending. Before moving to Blairsville, Doris had been active in First United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, where she and her husband were active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class. The family will cherish many memories of special moments with Doris, but will forever hold onto the joy and peace they felt when they could walk into a room and her eyes would light up with that ever present sparkle and her amazing smile would reach across the room to extend a hug before her arms ever had a chance to reach you. Doris had been preceded in death by her husband Edwin, and a brother, Jack C. Smith.

She will fondly remembered by all who knew her,but especially missed by: daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Tim Rainey, of Fayetteville; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David Steed, of Blairsville; and son, James E. "Rusty" Bishop, also of Blairsville; brother, Travis Gene Smith, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; five grandchildren and their spouses: Julie and Billy Cain, Carrie and Chris Collins, Ashley and Ryan Patterson, Monica and Randy Raiden, and Greg and Kristie Rainey; 11 great grandchildren, and many other relatives also share in her legacy.We love and miss her so much and days before she left this side she managed to smile and repeat often, "You know God has been so good to us."

Funeral services for Doris have been scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at First United Methodist Church of Union County. The following gentlemen have been selected by the family to serve as pallbearers: Billy Cain, Chris Collins, Ryan Patterson, Greg Rainey, Randy Raiden & Chandler Raiden. Burial will be in Coosa United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Saturday, December 13, 2014, starting at 1:00 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service.
