The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces Memorial Services for Mrs. Donna Cooper Farner, (born Donna G. Cooper), age 89 of Blairsville who went to be with her Lord on Saturday morning, June 29, 2019.
Mrs. Farner was born on September 27, 1929, in Truro, Iowa to Oda Clayton Cooper and Marie Carter Cooper. Following her high school graduation from Lincoln High School, Donna entered the work world and became an insurance agent for Hawkeye Insurance. She was the first female insurance agent in the state who was sent to open new offices for the company.
She purchased her first home in Des Moines, but subsequently moved from Iowa to California – joining her mother and siblings and their families. She went to work for a credit union and eventually worked for the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) evaluating credit unions and liquidating those that weren't viable.
At one point, Donna decided it might be fun to fly. She went to the local airport and signed up for lessons and became a small plane pilot. Donna was a trailblazer without trying to be. If she wanted to do something, she just did it. Donna has served the Lord in several locations: Hawthorne, CA; Yorba Linda, CA; Rogers, AR; Post Falls, ID; Derwood, MD; and Blairsville, GA.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (husband Jack) Schroeder; three stepdaughters, Barbara (husband Ron) Prince, Beverly (husband Rick) Martinson, Charlene (husband Mike) Pendergraft and stepson Chuck (wife Peggy) Farner; and her sister, Glenna Joan Lewis. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Preceding Donna in death are her husband, Charles Farner, her parents, and her brother, Ronald James Cooper and sisters, Beulah Mae Cooper and Christine Marie Hamilton.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Rock Chapel of First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Pastor Fred Lodge officiating. The family will gather with friends from 1:30 pm until the service begins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Regency Hospice, 350 S Main St, Hiawassee, GA 30546.
