Donald Eugene Burkett

Donald Eugene Burkett, age 89, of Blue Ridge, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2020, at his home. He was born September 15, 1931, in Burks Garden, VA, to the late Luther Mack Burkett and the late Sarah Dollie Shrader Burkett. Mr. Burkett and his wife, Ginger, had made the Blue Ridge area their home for the past 30 years. Don retired from Henryton State Hospital in Maryland where he worked as a stationary engineer. He had the awesome opportunity to witness the construction of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge while living there. Don, along with his second wife, the late Wyvonna Burkett, owned a small bait shop from 1984-1990, located on the Potomac River in Shepherdstown, WV. Mr. Burkett was an avid outdoorsman. He spent many hours hunting, fishing, and boating. He is preceded in death by his father, Luther Mack Burkett, mother, Sarah Dolly Shrader Burkett, sons, James "Jimmie" Burkett, Donald Burkett, Jr., Donald "Mac" Burkett, and Earnest "Buck" Riffey, brothers, Kenneth Burkett and Jerome "J.C." Burkett

Survivors include his wife, Ginger Burkett, son, Charlie (Debbie) Burkett, daughter, Wanda "Sissy" Mallory, step-daughters, Jewell (Pete Meissner) Warren, and Sara (Nathan) Campbell, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services: Sunday, November 8, 2020, at 2:00 pm at the Copper Ridge Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating.
