DL Martin

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mr. DL Martin, age 96, of Blairsville, who passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mr. Martin was the son of the late John Martin and the late Alice Jones Martin, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Martin was a lifelong resident of Blairsville, where he was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and a Charter Member of Blairsville Kiwanis Club, Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114, F & AM, and Union County Quarterback Club. DL enjoyed supporting local sports programs in Union County in any way that he could. DL and other men in the community were instrumental in securing Union County a medical clinic, that later on became Union General Hospital. He was a well-known local businessman who owned and operated Blairsville Cleaners for a number of years, and had laundry mats before going into real estate, where he worked at Union Realty as a broker and agent for many years. Later on, DL worked mostly as a real estate appraiser. He had been preceded in death by his wife, Gladys McGrail Martin, who passed away in 2010.

DL leaves behind many friends and loving family members. Family members left to treasure his memory are: two daughters and sons-in-law: Elizabeth "Libby" and husband Jack Stevens, of Blairsville; Carolyn and husband Donnie Hutson of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and husband Larry Nichols of Gridley, California; three grandchildren: Marty Stevens, Johnny (Sheri) Stevens, and Chantelle (Shane) Burnette; four great grandchildren: Addie Stevens (Nick Crouch), Aspen Stevens, Gracen Henderson, and Zion Paul Henderson; a great great grandson, Ryver Jordan Crouch.

Memorial services have been scheduled for Friday, August 17, 2018, at 5:00 p.m., to be held at First Baptist Church of Blairsville, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. The family will meet with friends at the church on Friday between the hours of 3:00 p.m. until the service begins. North Georgia Honor Guard will present military honors.
