Deloris Guthrie

May 21, 1934 — November 15, 2024

Deloris (Dot) Guthrie, age 90, of Murphy, North Carolina, passed peacefully on November 15th, 2024, surrounded by family before her final moments entering her Heavenly home. Dot was of the Methodist faith as a Christian. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Nola Dyer. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Guthrie; granddaughter, Windy Miles, along with 6 brothers, 4 sisters and one great grandchild. Dot is survived by sons, Mike (Lois), Steve (Kim); daughter, Susan (Jim); daughter in law, Patti; sisters, Mildred Woods and Frances Anderson, as well as 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Adored pallbearers include Chris, Eddie, Dickey, Jimmy, Ronnie, and Charlie.

Dot's way of life and passion was her faith. Reading her many Bibles front to back, as well as other pieces of extensive literature. She had many hobbies that she greatly enjoyed. On any summer day you could find her deep in her garden, planting or weeding her flowers and vegetables. Year round, you could find her loving on her family and enjoying the house she turned into her beautiful home. She came from a line of strong, resilient, and independent women. In her earlier years and before retirement, she was a seamstress and worked at many factories and plants. She spent many decades at Levi Strauss and MGM Brakes. After the day's work was done, you would find her at home where she could be baking coconut cakes, stringing beans or canning. One might also find her doing some needle work, maybe months into the production of quilt or a crocheted Afghan. The most important thing Dot would give you, besides a whole lot of love, was a word of truth. She would tell you how much she loved the Lord, how much the Lord loves you, and she would tell you she wanted to see you again where she was going. From her favorite hymn, "Amazing Grace", she might quote: "When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we first began".

Now we know where Dot is singing His praises.
